About 20 years before he died, my first cousin Bob contracted Multiple Sclorosis. He had a good marriage to Carol Rafferty, six children, and a well-paying job with Goodyear Tire Co in Topeka, Kansas. At first, he lost his balance where his gait became wobbly. A wheelchair followed and eventually he was confined to The Manor nursing home in St. Mary's. Gangrene attacked his legs and he died slowly and painfully. His mother assured him that it was okay to take the hand of Jesus, and that's when he left us. Bob had six siblings: Joe, Jr., Marge, Jack, Larry, Mary Ann, and Jimmy.
