Grandmother Katherina was also born and raised in Switzerland, and her ancestors had lived there at least since the seventeenth century. As far as we know, Grandmother had only one brother.
By the time her husband left for the U.S., Katherina had two daughters, a little girl named Margreth and another named Anna. It must have been difficult for her and the little girls to remain at home when Christian left for America. She probably stayed with her parents until she got the summons from her husband to follow him. She already had relatives living in the U.S., and she probably made the trip with other loved ones.
