In the United States, he was known as Stanley Chop, born in Austria (according to the Fourteenth Census of the United States, 1920 Pennsylvania), the son of Dragutin Cop and Marija Matic of Bohemia. He married Anka "Annie" Strbrni on August 31, 1909. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States on September 6, 1922. He had a white complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, and stood about 5'7" tall. Annie and Stanley had eight sons and one daughter: All of their children are deceased. Frank, Joe, Adolph, Johnny, Tony, Chuck, Mick, Lutch, and Mary Ann Chop.

When Annie died, he married Francis, and when Francis died, he married another woman in Florida.

A heart attack caused his death.
