"Frone" George was the eldest surviving son of James & Ermine (Thomasson) George.

After his father's death in 1852, the family moved to near Shady Springs, Raleigh county, where Ermine's brother had settled.

Frone was a blacksmith, and his shop can be seen in the first photograph of Beckley, taken around 1868.

Frone served during the Civil War in Co C, 36th Regiment of Virginia Infantry (CSA). After the war, he married Mary Margaret Keffer, and they had three sons and a daughter.
