Another veteran of the Civil war answered the final roll-call yesterday, September 24, 1907, when Charles E. Griffin passed away at 12 o'clock noon at his home, No. 25 West Washington street, at the age of 64 years. Death was due to paralyais and other complications, from which he had been a patient sufferer. The funeral will be held at the house tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock and interment will be made in Oak Grove cemetery.

Mr. Griffin was born Feb 8, 1842, in Erie county, Ohio and came to Michigan with his parents in 1846. He resided in Ovid township until shortly before the breaking out of the war, when he returned to his old home in Ohio, where he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Marrison. At the commencement of hostilties he was one of the first to enlist, casting his lot with the 29th Ohio Volunteers and serving with them until the close of the war.

When peace was declared he returned to his Ohio home and with his wife came again to Michigan. But the climate proved disastrous to the health of the wife, who returned to Ohio and soon after passed away, leaving a daughter, now Mrs. Fred Ferguson of this city.

Mr. Griffin was married a second time in 1871 to Mrs. Minerva Turrill, she survives him. By her he was the father of two children, twins, who died in infancy and are buried in the cemetery at East Gilead.

Mr. Griffin was a member of the Meth. church and had the respect of a wide circle of friends.
