Michael James Keating
Was Born in Fermoy in Cork Co. Ireland in 1841 But His Family Came to The US in 1855 and Settled in New York City,
Michael Came out West To Nevada To Work in the Silver Mines in the Early 1860s And was found to Be a true son of Ireland with Hard Working and Hard Drinking, The Latter getting Himself Arrested a Few times But He was Man Enough to Face the Music and Pay His Fines, And was Generally Well liked by those who knew him, And Was A Good Husband & Father to His Wife and 3 Children.
He was Killed on March 8th 1875 at Age 34 by The Collapse of a Main Support Timber in the Opra Mine.
His Fellow Miners Took up a collection and Paid For His Funeral And Made Sure His Widow was Looked after, (They Later Moved To Carson City)
