Herman Jacob Zessin, Fifth child of Eight, Third born Son of Four, of Hermann & Ernestine (Rathel) Zessin.

Brother of Louise (Dittberner), Rosetta (Boysen), Oscar, William, Lillie (Sattler), Bertha (Eucker) and Albert Zessin.

Husband of Hattie V. (Gottberg) Zessin.

Father of Ida (Spevak), Irene (Halsey), Martha (Wilson), Marie (Utley), William and Albert Zessin.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, September 11, 1968 at 10:30 o'clock for Herman J. Zessin, Sr. who died September 9 at Valley View Lodge in Norfolk at the age of 76 years.
Services were held at the Resseguie Funeral Home in Madison with David Sellers of Norfolk officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Lincoln, Nebr.
Pallbearers were David Stewart, David Spevak, Larry Haysey, O. J. Mitchell, of of Lincoln, Willard Zessin and Henry Strate, both of Madison.
Herman J. Zessin, Sr., son of Herman and Ernestine (nee Rathel) Zessin, was born in Green Garden precinct southwest of Madison, January 14, 1892.
He grew up in the farming community southwest of Madison and attended Green Garden school.
Following his marriage to Hattie Gottberg, he farmed and lived west of Madison until 1938 when Mr. Zessin went into construction work and he and his family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Three years ago, when his health failed, he moved to Norfolk to make his home with his daughter Mrs. Lee Halsey.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lee Halsey of Norfolk, Mrs. Edward Spevak of Lincoln, Mrs. Willie Utley of Russellville, Ark., Mrs. William Wilson, McCool Junction, Nebr., two sons, Herman Jr. and Albert both of Lincoln; three sisters Mrs. Art Eucker of Norfolk, Mrs. Henry Boysen and Mrs. Fred Sattler both of Madison; two brothers, Oscar Zessin and Willard Zessin of Madison; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie, one son, his parents, one sister, Mrs. Louise Dittberner, and two brothers, Albert and Ferderand.
