Daughter of William and Olive McCune. A dear, sweet, strong woman, she "endured to the end". I had known Marilyn for 20 years but that was not long enough. She had a great sense of humor. She served her fellow man with such spunk and spirit, I often wondered where she got the energy. "Listen here, kiddo" was how she would often begin one of our talks. She was the Relief Society President of Gardena 1st Ward when I met her. I remember how she said that when she received her calling, she had felt inadequate. I remember thinking "If this is inadequate, I wonder what adequate must be like." She was FAR from inadequate as a leader and as an example to others. She fed the Missionaries all the time, visited the sick, made cakes, etc. for dozens of events like baby showers. I am sure she served others in many ways that I never knew about because she was not one to "toot her own horn."

She graduated from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles in 1940, and eloped with her sweetheart, James Edward Lavin in 1941.

She will be missed by her countless friends, children, grand-children, and great grand-children, and other relatives too numerous to mention.

I have no doubt that this choice daughter of God has earned her place in the Celestial Kingdom.
