ROANOKE RAPIDS - Margaret Inez Green Pittard Woodruff, 71, the daughter of Edward Green and Josephine Harper Green Sexton, was born Aug. 3, 1932, and died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at her home.

Mrs. Woodruff graduated from E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Va., and Halifax Comminuty College. She was employed by Coastal Lumber Company and after retirement worked part-time for BP staffing. She was a life-long member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a UMW member, Sunday School teacher, and UMYF leader. She donated her time and skills as treasurer of Hawkins-Tabor Charge for many years.

Mrs. Woodruff loved the challenge of researching her own and others' genealogical history and unwavering in her support of many organizations including the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the National United States Daughters of 1812, the United Daughters of the Confederacy amd the Halifax Geneoligical Society. She served as regent, vice regent, and secretary of the Elizabeth Montfort Ashe Chapter of the DAR. She was currently serving the N.C. Society U.S. Daughters of 1812 as State Registrar. A very active member of the UDC, Mrs. Woodruff served the Roanoke Rapids No. 2332 Chapter as president, vice president, annd registrar. She served the N.C. Division as president, vice president, treasurer for three terms and chairman of finance. She served as treasurer general 2000-20002. She also contributed her expertise to many division and general committees. Her passion for research led her to join the Halifax Geneological Society and serve as President and treasurer.

Inez will be missed and mourned by all who crossed her path. She was a loving mother - proud grandmother, loyal friend, trusted employee, and faithful servant of God. She will be greatly missed by all who have had the privledge of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Wilson Pittard, second husband, Thurman Lee Woodruff, and sister Frances Elizabeth Green Jackson.

She is survived by her son, George Steven Pittard and his wife, Judith L. Pittard, of Fayetteville, her daughter, Cynthia Pittard Forsyth and her husband, Charles Ricahrd Forsyth, of Louisburg; her brother and sister-in-law, William Grant Mayes and Vivian Mayes, of Lynchburg, Va.; her aunt Nannie May Jones of Lynchburg, Va.; her five grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; and many, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services will he held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Rose and the Rev. Arnold Gene Cobb, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery....
