Virgil B. Davis, Jr. was born at McAlester, Oklahoma on March 6, 1922. The only child of Virgil Bernard, Sr. and Nell Rose Cloyd, he grew up in McAlester and graduated from high school there. During his summers, he worked on his uncle's farm in Kansas. It was there that he met the love of his life – Flora Ruth Humble. Virgil was 13, Ruth was 12. Their lengthy courtship was interrupted by World War II. Virgil enlisted in the Air Corps and served about four years. He was honorably discharged in 1942 as a Technical Sergeant.

He was finally able to wed his sweetheart Aug. 2, 1946 in Winfield, Kansas. To this union were born two daughters and one son.

Virgil was graduated with honors from Oklahoma A&M with a degree in marketing. He worked for Amoco Corp. as an accountant for 33 years. The family lived in Texas until 1967, when they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. They moved to Broken Arrow in 1972.

Virgil was an active member of the church of Christ, serving as a deacon, Bible class teacher, and song leader. In his later years he was heavily involved in the missions program, and it was his wish that any memorial donations be made to the mission fund at the church.

Virgil departed this life on October 19, 1999 at the age of 77 years and 7 months. He leaves, to mourn his passing, his wife, Ruth Davis of the home; daughter Carolyn Kirby of San Angelo, Texas; daughter Sherry Dodson and husband Gary of Independence, Missouri; son Richard Davis and wife Janet of Broken Arrow.

Also his grandchildren: Annette Kincaid, Tracy Kinnermon and husband Eric, Tanya Thornburg and husband Brian, Jeffrey Dodson and wife Suzanna, Terri Kirby, Crystal Davis, and Jason Davis. Virgil was blessed with three great-granddaughters: Taylor Kincaid, Chynna Kinnermon, and McKenzie Kinnermon.

He will be sorely missed by his church family and a host of friends and relatives.
