Geneis Conly Edwards was born October 14, 1907 to James Wert "Jamie" and Winnie Youngblood Edwards. His parents divorced, his father moving to Chillicothe, Illinois, and his mother moving to Texas.

Jamie said he worried about Geneis and asked and wrote letters to family concerning Geneis. Jamie eventually convinced him to come to the Chicago area (Chillicothe, Illinois), where he went to high school. Geneis was well liked by all the kids in school. After high school, dad got him a job with the Santa Fe and Geneis worked there for quite a while before deciding he wanted to return to Mississippi.

Geneis married Myrtis Mangrum in the park across the street from the Durant train depot on May 2, 1936. Witnesses and lifelong friends were Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Sweat of Kosciusko.

Geneis and Myrtis had two children, James Conley Edwards (1938-2005) and Betty Ann Edwards.

After Geneis and Myrtis divorced, he married Euelle Boykin.

He died on November 15, 1990 at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.
