Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a woman of virtue, kindness, and modesty. She lived a life that was full and constructive and loving. Her life touched many people and was at times filled with many trials, but also great joy. Much of that joy was because of her children, grandchildren, and her loving family. Throughout her life, Lena was a delight to her friends, a joy to her family, and a source of goodwill to the stranger whom she befriended.
Lena was one of two daughters born to John Henry Singleton and Lena Singleton Jackson in Barnesville, Georgia on January 9, 1915, and spent most of her early childhood in Americus, Georgia before the family eventually moved to Atlanta.
She came from a family who were pioneers in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Her greatest strength was her faith in God. She was a long-time faithful member of Atlanta's Butler St. C. M. E. Church.
Lena later graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta and there met and united in Holy Matrimony on April 8, 1942, to Otis W. McCree, M. D. who preceded her in death. Two daughters and one son were added to this union. She was blessed to not work outside her home.
Her full-time job was loving, nurturing, guiding, and providing a Christian and God-fearing home for her husband and children. From 1953 to 1957 she served as the first Brownie Scout Leader for a troop that was based in College Park's Friendship Baptist Church. In 1957 she became the neighborhood chairman for the Northwest Atlanta District of Metro-Atlanta's Girl Scouts of America.
She begin taking care of her ailing husband around the clock when severe illness forced him into retirement in 1974 until his death in 1982. Through it all Lena's devotion and love for her husband were steadfast. Years later Lena moved in with her mother, who had suffered a stroke at age 94, and cared for her until her placement in a nursing home.
Our beloved one quietly transitioned to her heavenly home suddenly into the embrace of God on July 23, 1993, answering the summons that sounds for all. For, we are sojourners upon the earth and our times are in God's Hands. Like a good soldier, she fought the good fight of faith till the end and refused to let go of the unchanging hand of God.
She will be remembered as a constant source of inspiration and support to her family, friends, and the many other lives she touched. We commend her to the serenity, peace, and blessing of eternal life. We rest in our faith in God and in the knowledge that we will one day be reunited with her.
Peacefully sleeping, resting at last, The world's weary trouble and trials are past. In silence she suffered, in patience, she bore, Till God called her home to suffer no more.

There are no tears in Heaven, no grief of any kind, so you dropped that final teardrop for all you've left behind. Though absent from the body you are very much so present with the Lord.
