My maternal grandmother. Catherine Maebel Williams (formerly Lowndes)was the daughter of Edward Herbert Lowndes and Georgeanna Lowndes (nee Sherwood). She married George Thomas Williams Sr. on December 31,1934. George was the son of Thomas Washington Williams and Gertrude Williams (nee Goodhead).They lived most of their married lives on a plot of land located on Kenilworth Road in Marlton, New Jersey. The two had the following children: George Thomas Williams Jr., Edward Herbert Williams, (a twin of Eddie's died shortly after birth was named John Richard), Catherine Dorothy Daily (nee Williams), and Thomas Washington Williams.
Catherine was a spunky woman, deeply religious, and deeply devoted to her family. She died much too soon. There are many stories told about her, but my favorite is of the time she blew a mouse away with a shotgun, leaving a huge hole in the dinning room floor. Her husband was standing on a chair at the time. Another story has her shooing away the family bull who had her husband pinned up a tree. The bull was quickly slaughtered after grandpop reached the ground. I hope I am half the woman she was.
Catherine loved Mimosa Trees, her daughter Catherine, visiting the Amish Country, and going to see movies.
