Mary Margaret Chappell King Wright was born June 9, 1896 in Raeford, Hoke County, North Carolina to John Martin Chappell and Catherine Ann Patterson Chappell. She had six siblings. About 1925 she married her first husband Lonzo "Lonnie" King, and they had one daughter, Helen Chappell King Greene. Mary was Lonnie's second wife. After Lonnie died in 1931, Mary ultimately remarried, in 1943, to Walter Lee Wright. Mary died at age 80 and is buried near Lonnie and other family at Sandy Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Hoke County.
