Ernest was born to Alfred Lafayette and Lula Mae Yandell Tinney on Nov. 9, 1912 in Gans, Oklahoma.
He was inducted into the Army in August of 1943 and was placed in the field artillery division. He took his training at Washington and Oregon before being sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served in Europe during WWII with the 3rd Army. As part of the 241st Field Artillery Battalion, he received the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy in France, Luxembourg and Germany. At the time of his honorable discharge he had achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was a member of the American Post of Checotah.
After his military service, Ernest spent the rest of his years farming in Checotah, OK. He never married.
He was a member of the Checotah church of Christ. A memorial service was conducted by Bro. Everett Dunn at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel on September 6th.
He was survived by one brother, John Tinney of San Benanrdino, CA, and three sisters - Goldia Kane of Fresno, CA, Edith Pugh of Muskogee, OK, and Lois Burley of Edmond, OK. He was preceeded in death by two brothers and one sister.
