Joe received his holy sacraments at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Milwaukee and graduated from Messmer High School in 1938. He loved ice skating and ham radios. Joe joined the Navy in 1940 and served on the USS Missouri. He received training in San Diego and Hawaii. Joe received an Honorable Discharge around December 1941 due to his father's failing health. He then went into the Merchant Marines and sailed the merchant ships for several years carrying fuel during wartime. Joe communicated with other ships and ports through morse code. Other careers included a purser for Pere Marquette Car Ferry, radio station engineer, and an accountant at Schlitz Co. in Milwaukee.

He met his beloved wife, Rita Virginia Zimmerman at an Armistice Day Dance in 1945 and wed on August 26, 1950 at Holy Angel's Church in Milwaukee.

Joe and Rita owned a corner grocery in Milwaukee but sold it in 1960 and relocated to Stevens Point where he was a employed at Point University and Sears in sales over the years. In 1969, Joe opened JB's where the local PJ Jacobs junior high kids would hang out but sadly had to close the doors in 1972.

Joe and Rita traveled the world and did not have any children. They would've been great parents. Rita says "We had a good life. Joe was a wonderful husband, the very best."

My great Uncle Joe was a treasure.
