Michael was the second son and fourth child of twelve children born to John Michael and Hannah Moyer. He was married to Catherine Berge on February 29, 1844 and their marriage was blessed with two children. He was a farmer and lived on a farm one mile west of New Berlin, Pennsylvania.
After the death of his father, Michael, along with his older brother John, purchased the Moyer farm, which they had been born on, for $6,804.72. The tract of land that the farm was built upon totaled 117.75 acres and cost their grandfather, whom built the homestead after coming from Lancaster County in 1797, 289 pounds. The old homestead still stands three miles east of New Berlin.
