Dalton was born in Georgetown, Illinois, the son of Oscar Brooks and Edith (Dye) Brooks. He graduated from Georgetown High School. He came to Muskegon, Michigan, in 1933 where he met Helen Turnyansky. They were married in Georgetown, Illinois, on June 21, 1935, but made their home in Muskegon, Michigan. He worked for 30 years at Teledyne Continental Motors, Corp., retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Eagles 668 and Moose Lodges. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and the beloved father of Mary Signs, Patricia Collins Lawrence and Richard (Shirley) Brooks. He was often found at one of his lodges tossing back a few with his buddies and singing old songs. Adored by his grandchildren, his hobby was carpentry, and he enjoyed helping them build or remodel their homes. He died at home of congestive heart failure due to cancer. He was survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen; his children; half-sister, Marjorie (Delbert) Stark; step-sister, Reda Prater; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Eileen "Kicky" Dixon, and one half-sister, Iva Katherine. The day of his funeral, his grandsons went to the Eagles Club and had a few drinks on his behalf and in his beloved memory. He will be greatly missed.
