Bob joined the Minnesota National Guard 9 November 1939. He was activated 6 January 1941 and shipped to Camp Haan in Riverside, California. While stationed there he met and married Kathleen Marie Good. He was stationed for a time in San Francisco until ordered to the European Theatre of Operations 29 December 1943. Bob participated in the Normandy Invasion landing on Utah beach. He was among the forces that helped liberate Paris. He was discharged from service 11 October 1945. He returned to Colton, CA and went to work for the Pacific Fruit Express remaining there until the shops closed. While working for the PFE he joined the California National Guard. He made the rank of Second LT. and was again activated during the Korean conflict 1 September 1950. He served for a time in Japan and was discharged 30 August 1951. He went to work for the Post Office in Colton and retired at age 60. He became an avid gardner and his yard was his pride and joy. Bob died after a six year battle with colon cancer.
