From Helena IR 7/6/2004:

He attended Malta schools and served with the U.S. Merchant Marines CPO 1943-1951 in the South Pacific Theater, both in WWII and the Korean conflict on the West Coast of Alaska.

Bob served on the Stetson, Victory, General Bundy, Wisteria and the Marine Lynx. While on the Lynx he was instrumental in the rescue of a stricken sailor. Bob also served in the Montana National Guard. In 2001 he was awarded the Governor's Citation Medal salute to the Greatest Generation.

Bob retired from the State of Montana serving 20 years with the Department of Revenue. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Helena (worked many years with Cursillo groups), Montana Senior Citizens Association, past trustee with Eagles #16, and an active member in other organizations both in Malta and in Helena.

He loved taking scouts to Camp Napi and teaching kids to water ski. Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends; and teaching his granddaughter to play cribbage. Later he especially enjoyed reading his Bible and the many books written by his brother, author Bill McGee.

At a special 74th birthday celebration a friend wrote, "Bob always has something positive to say and downplays any pain or personal struggle he may be having himself."

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marilyn Jean Crowder; daughter and son-in-law, Trudy and Tom Anders.
