"Smiled"

Harold smiled in Heaven today.
I know he did; for sure.
Although unsure that I believe,
There is no doubt he did.

His Dedham cup sat on the bar,
Dry and cracked, unused.
It once by sink accepted drafts,
Oft sipped and supped it'd be.

Harold, you've had enough, she'd say.
Just another sip of-----coffee(royale),
With splash of urn and clink of flask;
Smack of lips and pleasured sigh.

Sink dipping again we'd smile and say
He's old and past, with pleasures
Few. He's bored, retired, less pride.
And then he died. His time was gone we said.

Take what you want of his, she said,
To remember your father by.
A kind, quiet, distant man, caring but
unable to show, oft gone to see his patients still.

These thoughts to mind returned last night.
Let's have a drink to end the day. My
Jigger damp with whiskey yet, turned up
To drip in Harold's cup.

Was that a sigh, a gustitory grin,
I felt, or sensed, or heard? An
Errie image flashed up on my eye,
A certainty-----I knew he smiled.

DR. R. H. HUNTER

Dr. R. H. Hunter, brother and partner of Dr. R. Q. Hunter, is also a native of Bullard, Texas. From him we learned that the father, Dr. R. H., Sr., of North Carolina settled first at Larissa, going later to Bullard, Smith County, to make that his permanent home. The mother. Bernice (Jones) Hunter, was a direct descendent of Anson Jones the scholarly President of the Republic of Texas. We have shown that all Dr. R. H. Hunter Sr's. sons and daughters acquired college degrees.

Dr. R. H. Hunter received bis common school education at Bullard, Texas, his B. A. Degree at the University of Texas, and his Medical Degree at the College of Medicine. University of Texas at Galveston. For one year after graduation, he served an interneship in the General Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1930 he came to Palestine to form a partnership with his brother in the practice of his profession. It is but truth to add that no doctors in all East Texas rank higher in their calling than the Doctors Hunter.

Dr. R. H. Hunter married Frances Laughlin of Tyler, and is the father of three fine boys, R. H. III, and twins named, Tom and Dick.

Dr. Hunter is a member of all three medical associations, the Anderson County, Texas State, and American.
