The Van Alen Family

The Van Alen family was one of Newport's most prominent families. They greatly resembled the Royal Family in England, They being the Royal Family and Wakehurst, their estate in Newport, being Buckingham Palace. Their hobbies and occupations were far ranged and included an architect, party giver, socialite, tennis player, playboy, yachtsman, princess, member of the 400, heir and heiress. Although most of them are dead now (the most recent one having died in 2002) and the surviving ones no longer live in Newport, Wakehurst still survives as a library for the Salve Regina University.
