1 My Parents

My Dad and Mom.Edward Earl Sharp, Sr. and Thelma Eloise Hill.My Dad's family always spelled their surname without the "e" on the end. After he married my mother, she thought the "e" on the end made the name look better/fancier, so she started spelling it Sharpe. It was never legally changed on any of Daddy's papers, but that is the way it was always spelled after his marriage. When I was a senior in High School, I was talking to my Dad one day and asked him why his relatives in Tennessee didn't spell the name "correctly". It was then that he told me the story of how the "e" was added to our last name. In about the year 2011, after giving it a lot of thought, I felt that I should drop the "e" on my maiden name, in keeping with the way my ancestors spelled our name. As a genealogist, I feel that the name should be spelled the way it was spelled before my time.
