Firefighters Killed - Friedlander Leather Remnants factory; Philadelphia, PA; December 22, 1910

A fire that occurred at the Friedlander Leather Remnants factory on the 1100 block of North Bodine Street in Philadelphia, PA. A total of 13 firemen and one policeman were killed. The cause was when a portion of the building collapsed on the first responders and another collapse happened during the rescue effort. It remains the worst loss of life in Philadelphia Fire Department history to this day. In December 2010, a ceremony was held at the intersection of 2nd Street and Germantown Avenue, with descendants of the victims present, unveiling 14 bronze plaques commemorating the lives of the victims and the 100th anniversary of the disaster.
