THE TIMELINE: Sunday, May 28, 1978Earlier in the dayJeff plays basketball in Bramwell, WV with friends as Karen is enroute to West Virginia from Kansas, where she and her family had been visiting her sister.9:00 pmJeff picks Karen up at her parent’s house in Bluefield. They do not say where they are going.10:00 pmThe owner of a cabin along Wolf Creek witnesses Karen, Jeff, and an unidentified man walk up from the creek and get into Jeff’s truck. They take off at a slow rate of speed driving up Route 61.11:47 pmA passerby and his girlfriend spot a fire burning at the side of the road as they are driving down Route 61. They discover Jeff’s truck, the cab on fire, and Jeff’s body in the bed of the truck.Sometime after midnightFiremen arrive at the scene and begin to retrieve water from the creek to extinguish the fire and discover Karen’s body face down in the edge of the creek.
