Dessie N. Hampton, 85, formerly of R.D., Burnt Cabins, died at 7:35 p.m. Monday, March 2, 1992, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where she had been residing. Born April 6, 1906, at Neelyton, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Appleby) Murphy. She was married to Roy J. Hampton, who died March 4, 1972. Surviving are two children, Clarence Hampton of Mount Union and Helen Williamson, St. Thomas; nine grandchildren ; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Dean Murphy of Shade Gap, and four sisters: Erma Jaymes, Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia; Alda Snyder and Esther Glunt, both of Shade Gap; and Wilma Webb, Lewistown. Preceding her in death were a grandson, four brothers and a sister. Mrs. Hampton had been active in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Shade Gap R.D. During her life, she was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Robert Shaffer officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap R.D. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening (Wednesday), from 7-9 p.m., and Thursday, from 9 a.m. until the hour of the services..
