JOPLIN, Mo. - Steven R. Aikins Jr., 30, Joplin, Mo., and formerly of Thayer, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at his home. His death was unexpected.
He was born May 26, 1975, in Harrisonville, Mo., the son of Steven Ray Aikins Sr. and Glenda June Wolford Aikins. He moved as a child to LeRoy and then to Thayer where he attended school. He graduated from Thayer High School in 1993 before moving to Joplin to attend Ozark Christian College. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Family Ministry in 1998 and later received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Missouri Southern State University.
He had just begun his graduate work through William Woods University and was an ordained minister in the Christian Church.
He was a former member of Thayer Christian Church and a current member of College Heights Christian Church, Joplin.
He enjoyed sports, collecting sports cards, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Kansas University sports fan. He also enjoyed working with young children.
Survivors include his parents, Altamont; a brother, Ryan K. Aikins, Fulton, Mo.; a sister, Amanda Collins, Parsons; maternal grandmother, Amanda Wolford, Iola; paternal grandfather, Ray Aikins, Chanute; a nephew; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral service was 1 p.m. today, March 21, at Thayer Christian Church led by the Rev. Jim Pelley. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Stark.
