Army Staff Sgt. Quinn was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armor Cavalry Regiment, Ft. Carson, Colorado. Quinn, who was part of a four-man crew assigned to M1 Abrams tanks, was on guard duty at a checkpoint when a vehicle pulled up and assailants fired on him. Michael was an "all-American boy" who grew up on a ranch and helped raise sheep in high school. He then enlisted in the Army to pay for college and turned out to become a career Army man. He was a gung-ho soldier and a fine man. Michael served in Korea and then returned to Florida, where he trained tank crews. He planned to retire in four years and then move to Mississippi. He hoped to become a military instructor. Quinn leaves behind a wife, Melissa, and a son 8.
