Alfred Franklin Shepherd, Sr., born August 24, 1909, in Buxton, Iowa, the second son of his parents, William Joseph Shepherd, and Mary Louise Martin. He attended Buxton grade school, until the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Crocker elementry school. He graduated from West Des Moines High School, in 1927. Was accepted in the University of Iowa Dental School, 1930. He met Bernice Vaughnciel Finley in Des Moines, Iowa. They were married in Chicago, Illinois. They returned to Des Moines, Iowa where they lived throughout their lives.
Preceeded in death by his parents, William Joseph "WJ" Shepherd, and Mary Louise Shepherd, one brother William Clark Shepherd;
fraternal grandparents, Prince Shepherd, Jr., and Frances Evans Jackson Marshall. III. Maternal grandparents, Clark Martin and Lucy Wiley;four children; Alfred Franklin Shepherd, Sr., William Joseph Shepherd, II., Crystal Annette Shepherd Battle, and Shari Vaugnciel Shepherd Jackson.Survived by his death three children; Barbara Shepherd Jones, Lucy Marie Shepherd Porter, and Floyd Leland Shepherd, Sr.
He held memberships in The Order of the Elk, Masonics and NAACP organizations. He a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity , and a lifetime memeber of St. Paul AME church, Des Moines, Iowa, funeral service was held, and officated by Hamitt Funeral Home. He was buried by his wife of 30 years, Bernice Finley Shepherd,
