Tequesta, Florida: Phyllis May Owens, age 91, of Tequesta, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 in Tequesta, FL.

She was born on August 26, 1921 in New York, New York to her parents, Christopher and Phyllis.

Phyllis was the sister of Henry J. Vagts of Centerville, Massachusetts and Peggy Gallo (deceased) of Tequesta, Florida.

She married C. Walter Stone (deceased) of Mt. Vernon, New York in 1943 and had two children, Chris Stone of Tequesta and Claire Stone Greenspon of Darien, Connecticut. That marriage ended in divorce after 24 years.

She then married Timothy V. Paige (deceased) of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

In 1986, she married Walter Weidner (deceased) of Collinsville, Illinois.

In 1992, she married Jack A Owens (deceased), of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Phyllis moved many times during her childhood and adult life. She lived in the states of New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut, California, Kansas, Michigan, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Florida.

She had a fine career as an executive secretary. She worked at National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD for Dr. Eugene Braunwald, Head of Cardiology and for Dr. George Lawrence, Director of the Hunt Botanical Library at Carnegie Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh, PA.

While she was working, she also attended college for 16 years and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1967.

She then stopped her secretarial work and was a first grade teacher for one year in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania.

She was a resident of Tequesta, Florida for 26 years. Phyllis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tequesta.

She was a volunteer for Jupiter Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of WICS.

One of her greatest joys was dancing. In East Longmeadow and later in Illinois and Florida, she was an angel square dancer and performed at the Florida State Fair and at Six Flags Amusement Park. Until recently, she was a member of the Coquettes, a dance group which performs at local nursing homes. She loved dancing at the Moose on Friday nights with her dear friend, Bill Burridge, of Jupiter.

Phyllis will be remembered most for her vivaciousness and zest for life.

She is survived by her son, Chris Stone and his wife Norma, her daughter, Claire Greenspon and her husband, Bob, her grandchildren, Chris Stone and his wife, Kaori, of Sapporo, Japan, Edyn Toussainte of Gouverneur, New York, Colin Greenspon and his wife, Rachel, of San Francisco, and Alison Greenspon of New York City, as well as two great grandsons, Lyon Stone of Sapporo, Japan and Charles Greenspon of San Francisco.

She is also survived by her niece, Randee Gallo of Charlotte, NC, her nephew , Chris Gallo, of Palm Beach Gardens, her brother, Henry Vagts, his wife June and their four daughters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta, 482 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, FL 33469.

A memorial service will be held in Tequesta at a later date.

Her cremated remains will be buried in a family plot in North [should be New] Salem, Massachusetts, next to her second husband, Timothy V. Paige.
