ALDERSON - Harry Lewis Coiner, 73, of Alderson died April 4, 1999, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a long illness.

He was a retired plumber from Federal Bureau of Prisons, Alderson, with several years' service. He was a former member of Oak Grove Methodist Church, Ballengee, and was a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Alderson. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a prison guard during the Nuremberg trials. He guarded Hermann Goering, who was second in command to Adolf Hitler, and Rudolf Hess, who was secretary and deputy to Hitler. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of Tri-County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson.

Surviving: daughter, Patricia K. Massie of Alderson; brother, Frank Coiner Jr. of Pence Springs; sisters, Ruby Nash of Columbus, Ohio, Dorothy Coiner of Pence Springs, Beulah Hall of Madison; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, with the Rev. Roger Persinger and the Rev. William Hoylman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Ballengee. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson. Friends may call from 7 to 9 pm. today at the funeral home.
