LAWSON (SCOTT RING-GEAR) COMPTON, JR.
LAWSON (SCOTT RING-GEAR) COMPTON, Jr. 54 years of age of Big Rock, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2004 in the Indian Path Hospital, Kingsport, TN. Born March 11, 1950 in Buchanan County he was the son of the late Lawson Compton, Sr. and Lillie Stevenson Compton. He was a member of the Harman Freewell Baptist Church, a disabled truck driver, a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter: Tina Renea Bevins, October 3, 2001; two sisters: Betty Nelson and Vivian Trueling; three brothers: Otis Compton, Bruce Compton and Namis Compton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years: Bonnie Lester Compton of Big Rock, VA; one son: Teddy Scott Compton and wife Donna of Vansant, VA; three sisters: Inez Pennington of Bedford, OH, Ruth Whited of Honaker, VA and Lillie Jesse of Roanoke, VA; one brother: Guy Compton of Chapmanville, WV. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Colby Scott Compton and Sierra Brooke Bevins; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Lawson (Scott Ring-Gear) Compton, Jr. will be conducted Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Harman Freewell Baptist Church with Reverends: Ronnie Sliger, Eddie Wilson and Bobby Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Active Pallbearers will be: Bobby Ratliff, Rodney Stiltner, Ronnie Whitt, Tommy Riddle, Harry Steel, Jackson Lester, Jr., Jackson Lester, Jimmy Lester and Scott Bevins.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joe Looney, Johnny Lester, Ronnie Cox, Jerry Lester, Jackie Thompson, Doug Thompson, Roy Coleman, Bob Blankenship, Robey Raines, Clinton Lester, Junior Jackson and Burlin Blackburn.

Friends may call at the Harman Freewell Baptist Church after 6:00 p.m. Thursday. Evening services will be held Thursday and Friday and 7:000 p.m..
