US Congressman. He was educated in Coxsackie and became a farmer and an active member of the Greene County Agricultural Society. He was also active in several businesses, including a brick works and the Coxsackie Savings Bank. A Democrat, he served in local offices, including member of the Greene County Board of Supervisors. In 1864 he was the successful Democratic nominee for a seat in the US House of Representatives and served one term, 1865 to 1867. After leaving Congress he resumed his business interests in Greene County. He moved to East Saginaw (now part of Saginaw), Michigan, in the 1880s, where he was a Clerk for a lumber company and was active in farming and other business ventures. He was East Saginaw's Assistant City Treasurer from 1887 to 1890 and Deputy City Treasurer from 1894 to 1896. He is misidentified on his headstone as "Edward."
