Walter G. Prather married Elizabeth Young, Oct. 17, 1836, in Jackson Co., Indiana. Family records report she died Jan. 2, 1845. Her burial place is not marked. Two Prather children who died soon after her have markers at Jonesville; but it should be noted that Jonesville Cemetery was not established until 1851 when the town was platted. Older graves were taken up from their original sites and reburied here. Elizabeth Young Prather was most likely moved here along with the others, but no marker has been found to confirm this.

Walter married second to Mary Ann Holmes, Jan. 2, 1845, also in Jackson Co. Mary Ann died 1870-1880, date of death and burial not documented.

In 1880, Walter G. Prather was residing in Franklin Co., Tennessee, with four of his younger children, Orleans "Orra," America "Mary," John, and Morton Prather. A newspaper item of Aug. 13, 1888, reports, "Mr. Walter Prather, of Montana Territory, formerly of Jonesville, this county, has been shaking hands with old friends." By 1890, item reports note him again residing at Jonesville.
