John Place - born seventy years ago, this lone son of the late John and Essie Place, had to fight his way through tons of dolls (because of 8 sisters) to find his true love, the old jet black ball glove. John was one of the premiere outfielders that this part of the country was privileged to watch.

Besides singing (he traveled to PA every week to sing in a barbershop quartet), John's famed trumpet provided sweet sound with the Silvara Cornet Band. I listened to John's trumpet many a summer's night as he practiced in the back yard.
