Dr. N. O. Halvorson, husband of the former Bernice Ladd, who lived in Traer years ago, died Monday at Mesa, Arizona. He had been hospitalized only about a week. Particulars have not been learned here. The couple had owned a home in recent years in a retirement community, Dreamland Villa, at Mesa. His funeral services were held Wednesday at Mesa. The body is to be shipped by plane to Waterloo to the Erickson Funeral home in Traer. Burial services are to be at 10:30 Friday morning in Buckingham cemetery. Mrs. Halverson is not well and was advised not to make the trip here, but relatives and friends from Waterloo and probably elsewhere are expected to attend the service here to be conducted by the Rev. Robert Opperman, pastor of Ripley United Church of Christ.
Dr. Halverson was a teacher of English years ago at Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls, now the University of Northern Iowa, and he married Bernice Ladd, daughter of Dr. Fred A. Ladd, a former Traerite, and granddaughter of Dr. John A. Ladd, one of the earliest physicians to practice in North Tama county. Dr . Fred Ladd, as a young man, first practiced medicine in association with his father in Traer, then spent three years in Dysart before he went to Cedar Rapids, where he practiced medicine 53 years. Dr. Fred Ladd married Catherine (Minnie) Cohrt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jurgen Cohrt, early residents of Traer.
Their daughter, Bernice, was their only child. Dr. Fred Ladd died in Cedar Rapids in March 1950. His widow died in Cedar Rapids in February, 1960, at the age of 93. The daughter, Bernice, was also a teacher at the college at Cedar Falls at the same time as Dr. Halvorson. She was a teacher of speech many years. Her husband, after many years in the teaching profession, retired in 1959 from a college at Canton, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Halverson also spent some time in Cedar Rapids until her mother died. They retired in Arizona a few years ago. The Halvorsons had no children.

Obituary: Arizona Republic, July 28, 1970.
