Mrs. Levi Ladd died at her home in Traer yesterday afternoon of general debility having passed her eightieth birthday. She had been in poor health for some months past, particularly after breaking a hip in a fall a few months ago Mrs. Ladd was one of the most beloved wives and mothers of Traer and her passing brings pain to the hearts of many warm friends. She was one of the early settlers of this community and has lived here continuously for fifty-five years. Mrs. Ladd was a native of Canada. She was born near Toronto April 25, 1841. She came to Polo, Illinois, when six years of age and lived there until her marriage to Levi Ladd which was on December 26, 1867. The couple came at once to north Tama to live, Mr. Ladd having worked here several seasons prior to his marriage. They settled on land six miles southeast of Traer, where they farmed until the birth of Traer when in 1873, they located in the new town and have lived here all the years since.
Three children were born to the couple. The only daughter, Mary Boone has been with them in their old age, as faithful as a ministering angel. One son, Roma, has always lived in Traer. Another son, Rema, a twin brother, died here twenty years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Ladd celebrated their golden wedding nearly five years ago, since which time they have lived quietly in their Traer home, honored and revered by all. The funeral will be at the home at 2 p. m. Sunday and interment will be in Buckingham cemetery.
