He was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Sand Creek, Dunn County, to Alma (Gilberts) and Theodore Lofthus. He grew up in Sand Creek and graduated from Colfax High School in 1941.
Andy married Dorothy L. Libersky on May 31, 1952, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer. They resided in the village of Lake Hallie since their marriage. He was a semi-truck driver for Chippewa Motor Freight for 32 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, an over 50-year member of the Bloomer Moose Lodge and Civil Air Patrol. He held a private pilot’s license and loved to fly.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Chippewa Falls; a daughter, Sue (Brian) Van Helden of Champaign, Ill.; two sisters, Ruby (Lloyd) Moats and Judy (Fred) Dobbs, all of Chippewa Falls; a brother, Arnold Lofthus of Phillips; four dearly loved grandchildren, Blaire and Andrew Babbitt, and Christian and Allison Van Helden; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra “Debbie” Babbitt on Jan. 24, 2002; his parents; and three brothers, Omer, Mac and Clarence Lofthus.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls with Reverends Rick Hoyme and Mike Wollman officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
