She was born on April 16, 1923, in Green Bay, Wis., daughter of the late Rufus
and Alice (Largers) Hempton. Sister Philip earned a bachelor of arts degree at
Holy family College, Manitowoc, Wis. She entered the convent in 1939 and
professed her vows in 1942. Sister Philip Neri served as a teacher of primary
grades-music at St. Ann, Escanabla (sic), Mich.: St. Mary, Kaukauna: St. Mary,
Rhinelander: St. Mary, Brillion; St. Anna, New Holstein; St. Mary, Waukesha;
and St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio. She worked as a secretary in the inner
city and Holy Angels, Chicago, Ill. In 1976, sister Philip Neri receaved a
certificate of COTA and was an occupational therapist at St. Paul in Kaukanuna,
San Damiano in Slinger, and St. Joseph Home in West Point, Neb. She also served
as coordinator-helper in the craft room and as a switchboard operator at the
Motherhouse.
Surivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christitan Charity; a brother (private),
Appleton; and other nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Holy
Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev.
Samuel D. Jadein, O.Praem, with burial to follow at Holy Family Convent Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, Sept. 21, 2009, at Holy Family
Convent Chapel, Manitowoc where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
