ROCKVILLE — Laura I. Hudson, 93, of Rockville, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, in Union Hospital, after a short illness. She was born March 26, 1914, the daughter of Mary I. and Walter O. Williams. Laura worked at Murphy's, Parke County recorder's office, Fielder's Grocery, Rockville school cafeteria and Rockville school library.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James (Jim) R. Hudson; one son, Robert "Mark" Hudson and wife Kathy, and their children, Erin and Jason Hudson; one sister-in-law, Florence Williams (Marvin's wife); two sisters, Carolyn Jeffers and her husband John and Marilyn Thomas and her husband Harold; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Velta; and two brothers, William and Marvin.

She grew up in the Quaker Church and was very active in different aspects of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). She was a member of United Society of Friends Women and also served as an officer. She served on many yearly meeting boards and served on Friends United Meeting Board as a representative of Western Yearly meeting. She also was a member of the Coloma Needle Club. Laura enjoyed being active in home economics. She was a member of two different clubs and served as a county officer. While working with home economics, she became involved in recycling and was instrumental in starting the first recycling center in Rockville with the help of her husband. She was earnest about her family and her faith. She will be missed greatly by her family.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until services at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Robert Barris officiating in Bloomingdale Friends Church, Bloomingdale, Ind. Burial will follow in Bloomingdale Friends Cemetery. Butler Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Bloomingdale Friends Church.
