OBITUARY FOR JAMES RUSSELL HUDSON
---------
THE PARKE COUNTY SENTINEL, Rockville, Indiana
---------
James "Jim" R. Hudson, 92, of Rockville, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.

Born June 22, 1916, in Rockville, he was the son of Frank and Orana Hudson. His wife of 60 years, Laura I. Hudson, preceded him in death.

Jim graduated from Rockville High School in 1934 and attended business college in Terre Haute for a short time. He had a variety of jobs including a concrete block factory, Allison's (during World War II), and Ferguson Lumber Company before starting his own Roofing and Siding business. He retired in 1978 but continued raising Hereford cattle.

He liked the outdoors and enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife, Laura. He particularly loved tent circuses and calliope music. His life long interest in steam-trains began during the Depression when he listened to the hobo's stories along the tracks behind his home. He will be remembered by his family as a quiet gentle person that loved his family and enjoyed sharing stories of an earlier time.

He was a member of Bloomingdale Friends Church.

Survivors include one son, Robert "Mark" Hudson and his wife, Kathy, and their children, Erin and Jason Hudson; three sisters-in-law, Florence Williams, Carolyn Jeffers and her husband, John and Marilyn Thomas and her husband, Harold; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Katie Raab Hudson; three sisters, Edna Peterman, Helen Hendrickson and Mabel Hyndman; and one brother, Allan.

Services were Monday, December 29 at Bloomingdale Friends Church in Bloomingdale with Pastor Jeff Wolfe officiating. Burial was in Bloomingdale Friends Cemetery. In his remembrance, donations may be made to the Church. Care and arrangements entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 218 N. College Street in Rockville.
