Lewis Gilbert "Corky" Carpenter returned home to his Savior on November 4, 2012, at the age of 83. He passed away at the Veterans Home in Boise, Idaho, where he had resided since February 2012.

Corky was born February 28, 1929, near Lander, Wyoming, to parents Robert L. and Esther Mae (Meredith) Carpenter. He was the middle son of 5 children, all boys! His brothers are Marvin, of Tacoma, WA (deceased), Clyde, of Libby, MT (deceased), Joe, of Mills, WY (deceased), and Kenneth (Fern) of Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Corky was raised in the Lander area where he attended and graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he faithfully served his country for the next 25 years, 6 months, and 6 days. He served during the Korean War and Vietnam War and had other assignments all around the world.

He married Norma Bosworth in 1961. Norma passed away from cancer in 1983. He then met and married Donna Mae Puffe on June 2, 1984 and became step father to her 6 children, Peggi Morris (deceased), Judy (Willie) Lone Bear of Lander, WY, Pamela (Garret) Nancolas of Caldwell, ID, Jayne (Rick)Milonas of Rock Springs, WY, Bryan (Merry) Puffe of Caldwell, and Greg (Teresa) Puffe of Nampa, ID. At the time of his passing he was also Grandpa Corky to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Corky loved the outdoors, fishing, reading all books (especially L. Lamour), cross word puzzles, solitaire (he always won), and tinkering with electronics.
