I didn't have the chance to really know my grandpa Barrows, I was only 4 when he died and we lived in another town; so we didn't see him often. When I knew him he was living with one of his daughters, my Aunt Muriel and her husband in Chillicothe in the house his father had built. I remember that he liked milkshakes and, and he knew I did too. He would give me a quarter so I could get one at a nearby Dairy Queen. He was a slight man, small frame and from pictures when he was younger was quite handsome; I think. From stories of other family members I know he was loving and caring husband and father, well respected; a man with a kind heart. I wish I could have known him better.

He was the son of Corwin Adelbert and Arabelle Smith Barrows born in the little town of Frost in Athens County, Ohio on November 3, 1886. He married Carrie Watson on December 28, 1907 in Chillicothe Ohio where they raised their 5 children: Viola Maude, Harold Howard, Oakie Muriel, Carrie Mildred, and Gladys Miriam. Their second child Lorina Belle died at the age of 3 months of Whopping Cough, Bronchitus, and Pneumonia.

He was a Machine Tender for 38 years at the famous Mead Paper Mill in Chillicothe, and retired from there. The land where his loving home was is now part of The Mead Property. His best friend was Orval Maul who was one of the many in attendance at his funeral.

His wife, Carrie preceded him by 9 years in death. They are buried together in Greenlawn Cemetery in Chillicothe near the house the lived in.
