Robert Hertel, 67, of Spring Valley passed away this morning after an illness of three and one-half months following a stroke. The deceased was born October 12, 1867, in the town of Herman and at the age of nine the family moved to Centerville where he attended school. Later he attended Pio Nono College at St. Francis after which he learned telegraphy at Cleveland. He was then sent to Belgium, Wis., where for 15 yers he was station agent. He was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Wester at Holy Cross Church at Holy Cross, Wis., on October 13, 1896. In 1912 the family moved to Spring Valley where he conducted the General Merchandise store up until the time of his death. The marriage was blessed with 11 children, six of whom are living.
He was a faithful member of St. Fidelis church, a member of the Holy Name society and a trustee of the church for four years. He is survived by his wife, six children, George of Spring Valley; Henry of School Hill; Mrs. Ester Brunmeier of Cleveland; Mrs. Elsie Schaller of Sheboygan and Norbert and Bernard at home. There are three brothers, Paul of Spring Valley, Phillip of Chilton; and John of Reading, Minn. There are two sisters, Mrs. William Herr of Sheboygan and Mrs. Fred Wolters of Sheboygan Falls.
