Clair W. Hammond, 82, of Spring Run, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, August 26, 1997 at his home.

He was born June 18, 1915 at Spring Run, a son of the late Philip A. and Anna Shearer Hammond.

He was married to the former Mildred L. Campbell, a guest at Menno-Haven, Chambersburg.

He was a graduate of Fannett Township High School and Carlisle Business School. He was a farmer the greater part of his life and retired as manager of the Lincoln Way East office of Chambersburg Trust Company. He had served a number of years as assistant county treasurer, was a former Letterkenny employee and was a toll collector on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He was a lifetime member of Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, Spring Run, where he served as an elder and treasurer and taught the teenage class and men's Bible classes. He served for a number of years as secretary/treasurer of the Fannett-Metal School Board and was a member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, C. Philip Hammond of Waynesboro and Marvin L. Hammond of Port Royal; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family.

Funeral services were held Saturday from his church with Rev. Charles W. Best officiating. Interment was in the Spring Run Cemetery.

The John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, was in charge of arrangements.
