Edwin married Joanna Bryant in Porter County, on September 18, 1862. The couple had three children: Joanna, Edwin, and Ione.
After a short time living in Chicago, the family returned to Lowell, Indiana, where he became publisher of The Lowell Star in 1872. He moved the paper to Crown Point where it became the Lake County Star. He sold the paper in 1878 and the family removed to Princeton, Green County, Wisconsin where he became publisher of the Princeton Republic. He and his wife subsequently removed to Chicago, but returned to Princeton where he died.
