Doris Leona Patterson, 68 of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, August 22, 2004 at her home. It was very sudden and unexpected. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul B. and Rubye Halstead Patterson; and her sister Frances. She was a member of the Salvation Army, attended and taught classes and was the historian of the Home League. She also was a member of the Daughter's of the Confederacy, and was a very loving mother to her children. Surviving are her husband, Paul Eugene Watkins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Callie Sue Leona Stinnett and husband, Thomas of Roanoke, and Darlene Virginia Neff and husband, Tracy of Vinton; sons and daughter-in-law, Paul Edward Patterson, Christopher Allen Patterson and wife, Debi of USAF, England; stepson, Tommy Lee Watkins and daughter; grandchildren, Thomas Edison Stinnett, lll, Adam Gabriel Stinnett, both of Roanoke, Richard Allen Woodward of Virginia Beach, Leonard {Leo} Marvin Watson, lll, of Oregon; step-grandson, Christopher Alan Neff of Vinton. She will be missed very much... She was also married at one time to William Ashby Woodward III who is also surviving. He is the father of Callie Sue Leona Stinnett and Darlene Virginia Neff. {PLEASE DO NOT ADD ANY MUSIC TO MY MOTHER'S BURIAL RECORD, FLOWERS ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED}. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO STOP AND SEE MY MOTHER. SHE WAS AND IS ONE OF A KIND.
My Mother went home to the Lord on Aug. 22, 2004 ten days after my 43rd birthday. When I was born she almost died trying to bringing me into the world. It is so strange that she would die 43 years and ten days later. I owe her my life more than once. She gave me life twice. We were very close because of that. "SHE WAS BORN ON A MONDAY"

**** One morning just at day break She had a whispered call God had sent an angel To take her from us all God saw the road was getting rough The hills so hard to climb He gently closed her eyes And whispered. Peace be thine. ****

**** A special smile, a special face and in my heart, a special place.
No words I speak can ever say, How much I miss you every day.
To hear your voice and see your smile, To sit and talk to you awhile,
To be together in the same old way, Would be my dearest wish today.
Put Your arms around her God, Treat her with special care,
Make up for all she suffered here, And all that seems unfair. ****

**** "If Tomorrow Never Comes"~
If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you
fall asleep, I would have tucked you in more tightly.
And pray the Lord, your soul to keep. If I knew It
would be the last time that I'd see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one
more. If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice
lifted up in praise, I would video tape each action and word. So
I could play them back day after day. If I knew it would be the
last time, I could spare an extra minute or two to stop and say
"I love you," instead of assuming, you would know I do.
If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share
your day, well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can
let just this one slip away. For surely there's always
tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a
second chance to make everything right. There will always
be another day to say our "I love you." And certainly
there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you and I hope we never
forget. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old
alike. And today may be the last chance you get to hold
your loved one tight. So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today? For if tomorrow never comes, you'll
surely regret the day. That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss. And you were too busy to grant
someone, what turned out to be their one last wish? So hold
your loved ones close today, whisper in their ear and tell them
how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear.
Take time to say "I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you or
it's okay". And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

****"My Kingdom Belongs
To Children"~
When you think about the kingdom of God, remember that it belongs to those who come to Me like children--humbly, openly, ready to trust Me. You can't enter My kingdom any other way. But I promise that if you come to Me as a child would, My kingdom truly belongs to you.
From Luke 18:16-17
Dear God,
Thank You for inviting me to come to You with childlike trust and faith. Right now I lay aside all my tendencies to be cynical, conniving, or arrogant. Please receive me as Your child and welcome me into Your kingdom.
Amen.****
