Winfield - David Henry Knouse, well known resident of Winfield, died late last Thursday morning at his home, following an extended illness with a complication of diseases. He was sixty-three years of age.

Mr. Knouse was born in Snyder county near Kratzerville, January 24, 1875, the son of Jacob and Leah Knouse, but resided at Winfield for many years. For a number of years he operated a saw mill along route 404, near Turtle Creek. He was a member of the Kratzerville Lutheran church and was widely known.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ada Kratzer Knouse; four sons, Cloyd, John, Harry and Charles Knouse of Selinsgrove, R.D.; a daughter Mrs. Paul Wenner, Sunbury; a half brother, Norman Knouse, Sunbury, and the following sisters: Mrs. Thomas Adams and Mrs. Peter Bailey, Winfield; Mrs. Sallie Mull, Northumberland; Mrs. Charles Lytle, Mrs. Naldi Gill, Mrs. Harry Haines, Mrs. Amanda Straub and Mrs. James Kratzer, all of Selinsgrove, R.D. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock from the home, with further services at two o'clock in the Kratzerville Lutheran church. Rev. Irvin Heckman, pastor, officiated and burial was made in the Kratzerville cemetery.

A large saw, valued at $150, was stolen from Mr. Knouse's mill last Wednesday night and the theft was discovered by workmen when they reported for duty Thursday morning. The theft occurred Wednesday night while the owner lay near death at his home. State Police were notified of the theft and are now conducting and investigation into the ignoble deed.
