He passed away in 1794 in Washington, Kentucky, United States. William was the brother of Basil Hayden, Sr. who was the leader of the first group of Catholics who migrated from Maryland into Kentucky in 1785. Basil donated the land for the building of Holy Cross Church, the first Catholic Church in Kentucky.
