Professional Hockey Player. A native of Montreal, Quebec, 'Nels' Stewart' played for teams in the NHL, OHA-Jr., OHA-Sr., USAHA, and the St-Cup, hockey players. At 6'01, and 200lbs, Stewart played the position of Center for the Toronto Beaches from 1917 to 1919, Parkdale Canoe Club from 1919 to 1920, Cleveland Indians from 1920 to 1924, Montreal Maroons from 1925 to 1932, Boston Bruins from 1932 to 1935, 1936 to 1937, and the New York Americans from 1935 to 1940. Stewart was the recipient of the Art Ross Trophy in 1926, and the Hart Memorial Trophy in 1926 and 1930. Stewart retired from playing hockey in 1940 with a NHL record of 324 goals to his credit. Stewart passed away at his summer vacation home in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, on August 21, 1957, at the age of 54, following a heart attack. In 1962 Stewart was posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Player.
